We’re in a season without menu plans. Not having menu plans really is a challenge for me. I prefer to know what I’m cooking each day. At one point I planned not only the evening meal but also morning and noon! Yes, I have issues. 😉
Hello! I hope you had a terrific weekend. We went up to our property to do a few things to get ready to start construction on this Friday. My sister and her husband joined us. It was a fun time! We watched the fireworks show on Friday night and took an amazing drive up the […]
We’ve got some excitement happening! The start date for our cabin build is July 11. We’re super excited about this. We’ll be going up to the property on Thursday evening to spend the weekend of the 4th and finish the prep work and a couple of small projects. My sister’s family is going to join […]
The last few weeks have been pretty busy and I’ve neglected sharing our menu plans. I’m still putting together a plan, scratched out on a slip of recycled paper or an old envelope. We’re being somewhat careful with our money right now since we’re building a cabin on our new property so the bulk of […]
We had some excitement over the weekend. Our Peanut goat had kids. She had them around 8 Saturday morning. I was outside getting my dog that escaped from the backyard when I heard Peanut making noise. I looked over and could see that one of the babes was part way out. I got the dog […]
This is a sad time. My daughter’s boyfriend lost his mom Saturday night. She was only 43. Her death comes just a few days after he lost his uncle and his dad had a severe asthma attack. His dad is still very ill and unable to take care of himself. My heart aches for JT […]
I thought about subtitling this week’s menu “Real Food with a Broken Hand” because that’s what’s happening here. Last Sunday I slipped on packed snow (aka ice) in our yard and hit hard. I ended up with a little bone in my right hand broken (scaphoid) and yes, I am right handed.
Each fall we attempt to fill our freezer with venison and antelope. If we are successful I take it as a challenge to get creative with our wild game dishes. While my absolute favorite way to enjoy game is chicken fry I certainly don’t want to make it too often.
Pretty much every week I put together a menu plan. When I make that menu plan I fully intend to follow the plan– sort of. While I enjoy the knowledge of having the plan and knowing that if I follow the plan I won’t have to scramble at the last minute trying to put a […]
Tougher cuts of meat can be very budget friendly. Preparing the meat in a manner that makes those tough cuts tender and delicious is important. If your tough cut is a steak a great method is to pound the meat and do something like this tasty chicken fry. If your tough cut is chunks or […]
This is an exciting season for my husband. It is hunting season. One of the reasons we moved to Wyoming 3 years ago was for the hunting opportunities. My husband, with the help of our 17 year old (Kiki), makes it his goal each year to fill our chest freezer with antelope and venison. This […]
While we were on our family vacation this summer we ate out at Chipotle’s. We each had a huge stuffed burrito and while dining Joe said we should eat more burritos. I was surprised by that since we often have some sort of burrito, taco or tostado as part of our Stretchy Bean dishes.
Game plays a prominent role in our meal plans. Living in Wyoming we enjoy what seems to be an abundance of antelope and venison. In my area, the game feasts primarily on sage brush and prairie grass. Having several wonderful ways to cook game is a quest I am on. Our absolute favorite is to […]
